Let’s try to get some insight to what people are searching for when they search the keyword phrase classic video games. This is a good indication what to offer on the website.

Using the keyword tool we can see that there are 40,500 monthly searches for our main targeted keyword phrase “classic video games”. At first glance 40,500 may seem like a lot searches but how accurate is the keyword tool? How are the estimated searches counted, collected and data displayed? Even if the number of searches is over stated by the tool and we discount that number by 90%. We still have 4,500 searches a month. If we are in the results for the first page.

We can estimate that we will receive at least 65% of clicks available for our main keyword phrase. Total number of visitors from keyword phrase is 2282

Giving us a total of 2925 clicks to our website from Google. Can we estimate that we will get additional traffic from other search engine including Yahoo, Microsoft’s BING and other third tier search engines. So if Google can generate 2925 web site visitors using our main keyword phrase “classic video games” Can we estimate that all of the search engines combined could at least deliver 20% of the 2925 search term clicks generated by Google. Lets add 585 to our google total and estimate that there are 3510 searches for our main keyword phrase.

In this example we will be using the number 3510 as our number of searches. Please note that the website will be also found for different keyword searches. We need a number to use to determine the value per website visitor. You should start asking yourself how much revenue could each possible web visitor generate?

So that estimated value can range from .60-.40 per visitor. So for example purposes we will estimate the value per website visitor is .50. What was our estimated amount of clicks from our main keyword phrase? 2282 We can multiple 2282 x .50 for $1,141.00

So our monthly estimated number of visitors received if the website is in the first page results. We can estimate this number to be 2282.

Now you need to find the some of the closely related searches here are the top 10 searches related to our main keyword phrase. ( NOTE) We will be using this keyword research as part of our Search engine optimization (SEO) strategy.

For all examples related to the keyword tool we will be using the data from the “Global Monthly Search Volume” The main reason being to off set the seasonal searches for classic video games during the busy Christmas shopping season.

Estimating web traffic from search engines using the Google keyword tool.

Total number of our top 10 searches 152,050 monthly searches performed according to the tool. However you will notice that some of the results are the same keywords in a different order so we will have to account for this in planning.

A common practice I use is discounting the total number by 80%. I think you can go up to 90% for keyword phrases that are very similar and longer tail.

I discount these numbers based on exaggerated numbers that are displayed by the keyword tool.
I do not believe that the numbers take into consideration duplicate numbers and order of keywords when the searches are recorded.
152,050 total -121640 discounting numbers so your looking at a potential of 30,410 month searches for our top 10 keywords.
