SearchDex JC Penney have been busy the past couple of hours.
Other companies too. Yea I know SEO better than most. Well actually SEM in general which includes paid search and SEO. Hmm One Guy?

You might want to do more online PR there ROCKET. I would have started earlier on the PR but hey Internet marketing is an aquired skill.
Were these actual visits by searchdex and JC Penney you decide? oh and this is just from today actually a brief window.

I worked for SearchDex as well for almost 3 years. First off, I'd like to say that there was an unhealthy culture of nepotism involved from the moment that I started working there. The Mitch that posted the mean-spirited, but basically true statements.

However some of what the hilarious Mr. Friedman had to say is true. Especially the part about the culture of nepotism – a culture that he embraced enthusiastically at the time. Thom Adams basically hired anyone who was related to him (including his sister-in-law who was, indeed, a Chili's manager). Like the manic Mr. Spiek, he also hired anyone he was currently in a relationship with. In fact hiring unqualified “besties” was an unspoken rule at SearchDex. Adams and another manager both had (and probably still have) their mothers on the payroll. Not only did this make working at SearchDex uncomfortable, the few who were hired based on their experience had to pick up ALL the slack. He also hired several "consultants,” one of whom was a nightmare of a woman who was paid an ungodly amount of money to sit in a conference room and “motivate” employees. Her idea of motivation was to order Sprinkles cupcakes for everyone and, most notoriously, print up t-shirts with the redneck mantra “Git R Done.” This Gucci-clad monstrosity did nothing for the company - save for spending time in lavish hotels and buying expensive treats nobody wanted. But, again, this was a good “friend” of Mr. Adams. Also, just to add another level of toxicity, Mr. Adams was a complete anti-social mess who would only speak directly to those employees on his “friends and family” plan. To the underlings like myself - he barely existed. For years he was the mute yin to Mr. Spiek’s obnoxious yang.

Mr. Burzynski was also a major player while I was an employee. His arrogance was legend. He took nepotism to the next level... hiring only female assistants who could politely be described as eye-candy. While this is nothing new in corporate culture, his choices were exceptionally poor and comedic. The entire company resented him - save for Mr. Adams, who found a sure partner-in-nepotism and greed. Mr. Burzynski was in charge of the JCPenney account (as well as a hired liaison who worked on-site at JCP). Mr. Friedman is correct when he says that Mr. Burzynski should be held accountable for the bulk of the inappropriate “black hat” linking. He, his JCP liaison and whoever else worked directly in the campaign should have been terminated immediately. From what I have heard, dozens of people were laid off last week, but Mr. Burzynski and the JCP contact are still collecting a paycheck. This is typical of the kind of decision-making that Mr. Adams has become (in)famous for. His generosity was unlimited as far as his family and friends were concerned. Anyone considered an outsider was paid a very low wage while the upper management enjoyed lavish trips, bought expensive cars and generally flaunted their huge (and undeserved) paychecks. The arrogance was stunning.

Greed is the motivating factor here. Mr. Adams, Mr. Burzynski and JCPenney knew exactly what they were doing. No question.

There were a few smart, experienced people working for SearchDex at one time. None of whom were ever compensated fairly or treated with any respect. The people who remain (Mr. Adams, Mr. Burzynski, the Chili’s manager, their cherished hangers-on and whatever out-sourced tech they have managed to keep) deserve what is inevitably coming to them.

Being in the media we say; "No press is bad press", well in this case, I have to say that does not apply.

I can't agree more. Actually having been a past employee of SearchDex,Inc. this does not come as a surprise to me at all.

The owner & CTO; Thom Adams is a very arrogant personality and ironically of all things, holds a Masters in Artificial Intelligence from Stanford, where all these geniuses from Google come from. He his very removed, actually lazy from my first hand experience and he founded the company taking another persons idea and claiming this software concept to be his own. Mr. Adams, if he hasn't already fled the country to Chile or South America where he likes to run off and not work with people, will most certainly not answer any calls regarding this mess and has most likely claimed no knowledge of the external links having been purchased by him for sure... it would be interesting however that someone had to invoice the client for this initiative even if purchased through PayPal.

Ask Mr. Joey Burzynski, VP Business Development, if he is still there. One could only hope that with such a screw up that he implemented, that he was let go on insubordination, unless he has a hold on some executive there claiming validation for his position. It was his masterful idea to assist JCPenney gain significant results in order to help this 28 year old, with no college degree, pay for his Aston Martin and Maserati... I will say there had been mention from the top executives at JCPenney how this unseasoned guy could earn a salary that surpassed or perhaps rivaled the best paid CEO's of Fortune 500 companies. It is very clear that greed played a very large part in their plan for personal success and not for the best interest of the client(s).

I enjoyed reading how sad the SearchDex website looks, it is true... and it should make you question the amount revenue that comes into a small company; however, most of this pay is shelled out to a staff of very inexperienced people and to Mr. Adams shell company Oneiros, Inc. where he hid money for years. I should know, I received pay as a vendor from this very sided company... which I paid taxes on. It would be much better had he taken the money and invested in smart people with proper educations, some with college degrees and not varied backgrounds in real estate who run your Marketing department like Mr. Jason Campbell or managing your Operations coming from Chili's restaurant manager as Ms. Tyrra Adams, but building a business worthy of such high clientele by reinvesting the money and not putting it all in your pockets or taking shares from a past partners who built the core business who honestly regarded "best practices" as a golden rule.

Regardless, their name is mud, their presence at E-tail or any other industry function should be regarded as shameful even having the nerve to show face, and anyone you chooses to entrust their brand with these guys (if they are still around in the next month) should too consider their value as a valid retailer.

Worst part is these guys just hired a new CEO a month ago, who invested in the firm seeing JCPenny as the staple of their core business... Mr. Dave Chaplin, CEO, should most certainly sue Mr. Adams for false impressions. It is virtually impossible to believe he or Mr. Burzynski has no prior knowledge of warnings from Google that inevitably lead this poor guy down a path of darkness as he took the company over from Mr. Adams. How suspect is that?

My hope is that JCPenney seeks retribution for all the losses from a now virtually invisible mark in search presence, they will lose millions until they regain a retail footing in cyber space slowly. Hopefully JCPenny uses this opportuity to review the details of their contract with SearchDex, Inc. as a clause specifies if any "unethical" practices puts them in any compromising position that they "SearchDex" are liable for such actions to be taken. They should sue equal to the daily loss JCPenney is now incuring. It is time to show all the genuine e-tailers that they become the example and this is what happens when you risk the credibility of such an established global brand and tarnish an image.

It's times like this that Mr. Adams should have thought about taking all that money for himself, unfortunately he and Mr.Burzynski will be living a life unbearable litigation with no chance of ever reclaiming any credibility in this industry again.

I hope you enjoyed the ride.
